In 2021, there was a rise in verbal and physical violence, and hate crimes against Asian Americans in the community. Jennifer Marana, the president of Katipunan Filipino-American Association of Maryland, Inc., invited PTK-KDP to conduct a session on personal safety. The session discussed situational awareness, by-stander intervention, weapons of opportunity, and personal safety. The audience was comprised of community members with little or no martial arts or combat training and experience.
